Half of all vehicle attacks are in broad daylight

Since we launched Tell TVL, the response has been incredible. You’ve been reporting back in your droves with invaluable insights, helping us to paint a picture of what’s happening on our streets.

And that picture is more shocking than we ever imagined.

Your reports have revealed that more than half of all van attacks happen in broad daylight. Forget the idea of thieves waiting for the cover of darkness to carry out their crimes – these days, they’re brazen enough to attack anytime, anywhere.

So how do we fight back? Well first up, we need to be on our guard all the time. Never leave your vehicle unlocked – even if you’re just popping to shop to grab some lunch. Working in an open area? Always make sure your locks are engaged. Now this might seem obvious, but according to a recent article in Van Fleet World nearly half of all van drivers fail to lock up!

And even if you’re one of the lucky ones, and haven’t found yourself at the sharp end of vehicle crime yet, remember – no one’s completely safe. A recent report published by On The Tools, featured another shocking statistic, revealing that 78% of tradespeople have had their tools stolen.

As a first line of defence, we’ve put together a handy list of tips, with simple and effective steps you can take to make life easy on you and difficult for the thieves. You can find our crime prevention advice here.

And in the longer term? Whether you’re a van owner, delivery driver or fleet manager, take the initiative and sign up to Tell TVL. You’ll get a clearer picture of what’s happening and what you can do to best protect yourself, and you’ll become part of our community dedicated to standing up to vehicle crime together.

Remember – thieves thrive on silence, so let’s make some noise!
